Benny Turns One! ~ Tacoma Family Photographer

I am going to admit right off the bat that I am partial to this little guy, because he is my own.  Granted, it has taken me four months to get around to editing his first year portraits, but I'm going to give myself some grace on that one since he keeps me so busy.

Benny is a rough-and-tumble boy by most measures.  He laughs when he falls down, beams when he hears the sound of an engine (the louder, the better), broke a wooden spoon when he was 8 months old by hitting it against the dining room table, makes a beeline for the toilet anytime he sees the bathroom door open, loves to eat dirt, kicks his head back to drink his milk then slams it down with satisfaction, and hits people in the face as a friendly greeting.  The boy lives his life like he's in a mead hall.  All the time.

Despite all this toughness, he has a tender side.  Between bouts of smashing other people's wooden block towers and terrorizing his sisters, he crawls up into my lap and sprawls himself out like a dog asking to be scratched.  When I ask him for a kiss, he sometimes plants the most delicious slobbery baby kisses on me (other times, he slaps me; I never know which response to expect!).  He also loves his stuffed friends (as you will see with his lion below), and his siblings.  And when he loves something, nothing can come between him and the object of his affections (except, sometimes, a baby gate that has seen better days).

Basically, he is a lover AND a fighter.

Since he is my fourth child, I know there will be plenty of times when I am too busy to grab the camera and document his crazy antics or sweet smiles.  But  for now I'm going to take it one year at a time.  I only hope that I can try to keep up with him as he races off into the amazing future I'm sure God has planned for him.

(Oh, and make sure to click on these photos so you can see them larger!)

That gaze!  He looks right into my heart!

He's examining a little flower in his shirt pocket.  Reminds me of the story of Ferdinand the Bull.

Benny loves his bear so much that he picks his nose!

These last 3 shots were taken on the steps of his Grandma's little cottage-style chicken coop.

Such love!!!

I just love his hands in this one, and the way his eyes look- so handsome and dignified!

See?  He is such a handsome little chunk of boy.  I am excited to bring you more photos of him and his adorable dimples as the years go by!
